Order : PRIMATES
Family : Cercopithecidae
Species : Trachypithecus selangorensis
Head-body length : 41-54 cm
Tail length : 60-76 cm
Weight : 4.0-6.5 kg
The Selangor Silvered
Langur inhabits coastal and riverine habitats on the west coast of
Peninsular Malaysia.
This species is still
considered by some primatologists to be simply a mainland subspecies of the
widespread Silvered Langur
Trachypithecus cristatus, which occurs on some of the larger islands of Southeast Asia,
such as Sumatra and Borneo. However,
it is now treated by other primatologists as a separate species in its own
right (Roos et al,
2014).
It is virtually identical in appearance to the Silvered Langur, with
dark grey fur with a silvery sheen, and with the skin on the face, hands and
feet being black. The young are bright orange in colour, like those of the
Silvered Langur.
The Selangor Silvered
Langur is restricted to the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, from Kedah in
the north to Johor in the south. There are no records from Singapore, either
historical or recent.
